Chatsworth's history spans almost 500 years and seventeen generations of the Devonshire family, starting with the formidable Bess of Hardwick, the second richest and most powerful woman in Elizabethan Britain after Queen Elizabeth I.
In this talk, Head of Collections, Alice Martin, shares a selection of the most insightful and significant objects from the Devonshire Collections to give some context to Chatsworth's fascinating history.
Ideal for new visitors to Chatsworth, this small-group experience will be accompanied by a talk and Q&A.
The day includes house, garden and farmyard tickets so you can explore at your own pace after the event.
Meeting point
Please meet at Flora’s Temple in the garden at 10:45am for an 11am start. Show your booking barcode at the lower garden gates to enter the garden. View map (Flora's is location 15)
Accessibility
This event takes place in a step free venue. Manual wheelchairs and free carer tickets can be booked online. Please let us know when booking if you require space for your own manual wheelchair. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate mobility scooters in the house.
