Wirksworth Book Festival celebrates the joy of books.

The festival features national and local authors talking about their work. Genres include historical fiction, poetry, crime, manga comics and the outdoors. There will also be writing workshops, children's activities, a poetry slam, a reading of Jekyll and Hyde and the Great Wirksworth Book Quiz.Tricia Durdey launches the festival with Upside Down in a Hoop - A performance of words and movement. What is it that keeps us going through the tough times? The joy of dancing as a child? The adventures we dare to take as adults? Friday 10th April ay 7pm.Saturday 20th April features author talks, writing workshops, Pilates and breathing sessions for younger children, a book and vintage fair, and an open mic poetry slam at 5pm in the Feather Star. Off the Bookshelf features free author talks and book signings with a cafe at The Wellspring Centre. No need to book. Featuring Penny Anderson, Shirley Mann, Andy & Vally Miller, Helen Mort, Zoe Sharp and Phil Whitney. Freed Words from The Lockup showcases Derbyshire based poets performing live spoken word pieces.Featuring Joe Zux, Sarfraz Ahmed, Tanvir Akram, Matthew James fowler, Demspey Grinion and Rob Stamper.Kirk Ireton Light Programme round of the day with their atmospheric reading of The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde in the historic Moot Hall.The Great Wirksworth Book Quiz returns on Sunday 21st April, 7pm at the Memorial Centre. Sure to test your knowledge on all types of books and authors, this fun challenge is raising funds for Aquabox and the Book Festival.
