Visit Peak District & Derbyshire shortlisted for sustainable marketing award

Post Date: 24 Jun 2024

The area’s official tourism body has been shortlisted for a prestigious sustainable marketing award at the Travel Marketing Awards

Visit Peak District & Derbyshire, the area’s official tourism body, has been shortlisted for a prestigious sustainable marketing award.

The organisation has been shortlisted for the Marketing Responsible and Sustainable Travel Award at the acclaimed Travel Marketing Awards, which celebrate outstanding achievements in travel and tourism.

Judges of the category – which champions green travel – were looking for ‘an organisation that has genuinely made a positive impact on the planet, and whose long-term strategies have been well marketed to the consumer’. The awards also recognise ‘organisations that view sustainable travel as a strategic vision, not a short-term tactical initiative.’

Visit Peak District & Derbyshire has been shortlisted for its ‘Car-free Adventures’ campaign which ran throughout 2023 and encouraged visitors to choose sustainable transport methods when travelling to, and getting around, the destination.

The campaign promoted great places to visit that could be easily accessed by bus and train and highlighted using public transport as a practical way for visitors to save money, reduce their carbon footprint, and do their bit to protect local landscapes at the same time.

The campaign included digital marketing activity showcasing sustainable travel choices, printed leaflets promoting days out by bus, downloadable ‘car-free’ itineraries, and social media content including video shorts that have so far reached over three million people.

Visit Peak District & Derbyshire also worked closely with stakeholders and strategic partners including transport operators Stagecoach and Northern to encourage visitors to enjoy all the area has to offer without increasing pollution and congestion in towns, villages and the countryside.

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony held at Hilton London Bankside on Thursday 4th July 2024.

Jo Dilley, Managing Director of Visit Peak District & Derbyshire, says: “Being shortlisted at these prestigious awards is testament to our ongoing commitment to growing and developing the destination’s sustainable tourism offer.

“We recognise the importance of building strong partnerships to deliver results, and with the support of our stakeholders and public transport partners, we were able to create an inspirational and engaging green travel campaign that reached a wide audience.

“Our car-free campaign activity is ongoing and addresses some of the issues and opportunities that can make a real difference to both visitors and residents alike, helping us to create a compelling destination that places sustainability at the heart of its tourism offer.

Visit Peak District & Derbyshire is the lead partner of the Visit Peak District, Derbyshire and Derby Local Visitor Economy Partnership (LVEP), in collaboration with Visit Derby, and sustainable tourism is a key pillar of the organisation’s long-term tourism strategy.

Visit Peak District & Derbyshire’s Sustainable Tourism Action Plan, produced in partnership with stakeholders including the Peak District National Park Authority and the National Forest, was launched in 2023 and sets out the destination’s vision to lead the way in green tourism, active travel and transport connectivity.
