Visit Peak District & Derbyshire welcomes Hassop Station on board as latest patron

Post Date: 17 Apr 2025

Hassop Station Cafe & Monsal Trail Cycle Hire has been announced as a new patron of Visit Peak District & Derbyshire, the area’s official tourism body.

A popular cycle hire, café, accommodation and gift shop near Bakewell has joined a dedicated network of businesses who share Visit Peak District & Derbyshire’s core aims to grow the visitor economy and champion the long-term success of the tourism industry and the communities it supports.

As a patron, Hassop Station & Monsal Trail Cycle Hire will support Visit Peak District & Derbyshire’s ongoing mission to increase visitor spend, drive overnight stays and extend the tourism season, whilst helping to develop the visitor economy in an inclusive, accessible and sustainable way.

Situated in a former railway station on the scenic Monsal Trail, at the heart of the Peak District, Hassop Station is a much-loved destination for walkers, cyclists and horse riders looking to explore the 8.5-mile traffic-free route along the former Midland Railway line.

The business was founded by Duncan and Rebecca Stokes in 2010 and following a sensitive renovation project that complemented the building’s rich heritage, the site has grown into a vibrant visitor hub.

Hassop Station boasts a spacious fully licenced cafe and with terrace overlooking the Monsal Trail, where visitors can refuel after an adventure or gather with friends to enjoy a locally-sourced, seasonal menu that champions Derbyshire ingredients.

The stylish gift and bookshop offers a curated selection of gifts and cards, and for those seeking adventure, the on-site cycling hub, Monsal Trail Cycle Hire, offers a range of bike hire options for all ages and abilities including e-bikes.

In recent years they have converted the neighbouring Hassop Station Farm, which is part of the Chatsworth Estate, into stylish holiday accommodation, offering guests a great place to stay with direct access to the Monsal Trail.

Hassop Station is particularly passionate about supporting the local community and the business aims to work with Visit Peak District & Derbyshire to champion the sustainable development of the area’s £2.9bn visitor economy.

Visit Peak District & Derbyshire is the lead partner of the Visit Peak District, Derbyshire & Derby Local Visitor Economy Partnership (LVEP) in collaboration with Visit Derby. Developed and administered by national tourism body VisitEngland, the national portfolio of accredited LVEPs work locally and nationally on shared priorities and targets to grow the local visitor economy.

Duncan Stokes, owner of Hassop Station Café and Monsal Trail Cycle Hire, says: “We are thrilled that Hassop Station is now a proud patron of Visit Peak District & Derbyshire.
