About

10th July 2024 10:00 am - 4:30 pm

This will be a self-led visit, with tea, coffee, and cakes served on arrival at the Vista restaurant from 10:00 – 10:30. From then, members can stay as long as they’d like.

Heights of Abraham is famous for its cable cars, which take visitors on an exciting flight through the scenic Derwent Valley, passing over river, road and rail before reaching the summit of Masson Hill. Once at the summit the 237-year story of the Heights springs to life. Visitors can take two different tours through underground illuminated caverns, with professional guides to lead the way. Above ground, there are three exhibitions, delving deeper into the heritage of the 60-acre estate. Relax in the Vista restaurant with an outstanding view to accompany your meal. Adventure playgrounds are on offer to keep the children busy, with heritage gardens and sculptures too. The Heights is a truly unique and memorable day out.

2024 is a very special year for the Heights of Abraham, as they celebrate the 50-year golden anniversary since the Pugh family purchased the estate in 1974 and began an important period of restoration; without which the estate would likely have closed its doors for good. The family installed pathways, landscaped the estate, built facilities, and turned the caves back into the show caverns they once were. In 1984, they made the innovative decision to install Britain’s first alpine style cable car system, which in 2024, celebrates its 40th anniversary.
