Railway 200 is be a year-long nationwide partnership-led campaign to celebrate 200 years of the modern railway.
With a wide variety of activities and events across Derbyshire and the Peak District there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Derby & Derbyshire has a proud history with the railways and rail industry. Here are some of the railway and transport attractions and events.
Steam rides at Churnet Valley Railway
Enjoy a nostalgic steam train ride through the Staffordshire Moorlands, meandering through the hidden beauty of the Churnet Valley, just a stone's throw from the enchanting outskirts of the Peak District. Experience the heritage railway at Ecclesbourne Valley Railway
Ecclesbourne Valley Railway is Derbyshire's longest heritage railway! They operate steam and heritage diesel trains on the line between Wirksworth and Duffield with events throughout the year from visits from Paddington Bear to a ‘Back to the 40s’ weekend. Dine aboard Peak Rail
A beautifully preserved railway that travels 4 miles through the delightful Derbyshire countryside between Rowsley and Matlock. Watch the Roundhouse turntable in action at Barrow Hill
Barrow Hill Roundhouse is the last surviving railway roundhouse in the United Kingdom with an operational turntable. Built in 1870 it was saved by a group of dedicated volunteers who have transformed it into a unique railway museum and events venue. Step back in time at Crich Tramway Village
A unique open-air museum dedicated to the historic trams. Visitors can take a scenic rides through beautiful countryside, or explore a recreated period street, as well as the fascinating National Tramway Museum.
