About
Set in the leafy outskirts of Buxton, the Lee Wood Hotel is a beautifully preserved historic property that blends heritage, comfort, and genuine family warmth. Originally built in 1830 as three townhouses for the Duke of Devonshire, the building later became a hotel and has been owned by the same family for over 70 years. This long stewardship gives the hotel a uniquely personal atmosphere, offering guests a sense of tradition and attentive care.
Today, the Lee Wood Hotel stands proudly as Buxton’s only 4-star hotel, featuring around 40 well-appointed bedrooms. Guests can choose from standard doubles, deluxe rooms, and spacious family accommodation in the separate annex. Each room includes modern comforts — smart TVs, complimentary Buxton mineral water, quality toiletries, and cosy furnishings — while deluxe rooms provide added luxury such as a lounge area, Nespresso machine, enhanced refreshments, and a complimentary local gift.
A standout feature is the hotel’s beautiful conservatory restaurant, a bright, glass-fronted space that immerses guests in the natural charm of Buxton. Known for its clean air, surrounding hills, and lush gardens, Buxton sits 300 metres above sea level, making it England’s highest market spa town. From the conservatory, guests can enjoy light, greenery, and views that reflect the town’s peaceful character and the wider beauty of the Peak District National Park, which begins just minutes away.
The restaurant is open daily from 07:00 to 20:30, serving a hearty full English breakfast, relaxed lunches, fresh coffee and homemade cake, and a dinner menu created with locally sourced ingredients.
With free parking, EV charging, tranquil gardens, and a location just a short walk from Buxton’s Opera House and Pavilion Gardens, the Lee Wood Hotel offers an inviting base for exploring both the town’s spa-town elegance and the wild landscapes beyond. Combining history, comfort, and decades of family-run hospitality, it remains one of Buxton’s most welcoming places to stay.
