Winter walks by water in Derbyshire
These two great winter walks in Derbyshire have all the ingredients for a great seasonal stroll.
If you’re looking for a walk that still has spectacular views in winter, you can’t get much better than Carsington Water. Theres a 7.5 mile loop around the reservoir which gives you beautiful views all the way round, with sailing boats passing by and woodlands full of wildlife. If you fancy a gentler stroll there’s shorter trails and a dam walk close to the visitor centre. The dam walk can be chilly so bring warm clothing, but it gives a spectacular view across the reservoir and the draw off tower.
Theres so much to see and do around the site, wooden carvings and sculptures, stones Island which has impressive raised standing stones, a wildlife centre, bird hides and a large playground for children that’s very popular. There are often seasonal trails and events put on and if you time it right there’s a monthly artisan market on a Sunday with local produce and crafts! Theres also a wonderful world of water exhibition which is interactive and educational, good for all ages but especially children. Once you’ve finished exploring there’s a great restaurant at the top of the visitor centre where you can sit with views over the water and a delicious roast.
