Buxton Visitor Centre and Pump Room
Welcome to Buxton’s Visitor Centre at the Pump Room, providing you with information on great places to visit and experiences to enjoy in our town and beyond.
About
Located in the heart of Buxton, directly opposite the magnificent Crescent and beside the famous St Ann’s Well, the historic Victorian Pump Room is one of the town’s most recognisable landmarks. Originally built in 1894 as a place for visitors to “take the waters”, today it serves as Buxton’s Visitor Centre, café, gift shop and ticket collection point for the Buxton Crescent Experience. Whether you’re visiting Buxton for the first time or are a regular visitor to the Peak District, the Pump Room is the perfect place to begin your journey.
Visitor Information
Surrounded on all sides by the stunning Peak District National Park, Buxton is an ideal base for exploring the region’s landscapes, attractions and heritage. Our friendly and knowledgeable team are on hand to help you make the most of your visit. Whether you’re looking for walking routes, transport information, local attractions, hidden gems or recommendations for places to eat and visit, we’re here to help.
Every year, thousands of visitors rely on the Pump Room for trusted, up-to-date advice that helps them discover the very best of Buxton and the wider Peak District. You can also pick up a FREE Buxton Town Guide, packed with inspiration, maps and information about attractions, events and activities both in the town and beyond. Families are warmly welcomed, with children’s drawing activities available to keep younger visitors entertained. We are dog friendly and accessible to wheelchair users and most mobility scooters. Public toilets are also available on site, making the Pump Room a convenient stop during your visit.
Café
Take a moment to relax within the Pump Room’s beautiful marble interior and enjoy a selection of locally sourced refreshments. Choose from freshly brewed coffee supplied by Buxton Roastery, traditional Derbyshire Tea, and a tempting range of cakes and sweet treats from Jake’s Peak Bakes. Whether you’re meeting friends, taking a break from sightseeing or simply enjoying the atmosphere, the café provides a welcoming space to unwind.
