English Wine Project

It all started with the question: if I could do anything what would that be…? The answer was grape growing and winemaking. My eyes were opened when I spent time in Iraq and Afghanistan where people just dream of survival. I came home so much more grateful then when I left; knowing that I just had to go for it. Initially, I thought I would head down to the south of France or Italy, but actually as I gained more experience and tasted more English wines, I knew that the opportunity was very much here in the UK. So, I took on Renishaw Hall vineyard on the Derbyshire / Yorkshire border (2011), went to Plumpton College (2010-12), worked for the Rothschilds (2011-12) and started the English Wine Project (2011)– and here I am over a decade later - with the Renishaw Hall wines and Mills & Hills.

We now offer tours and tastings at both the vineyard at Renishaw Hall and our winery at Darley Abbey.

Renishaw Hall Vineyard Tour & Tasting - Your tour and tasting will take place at Renishaw Hall Vineyard, a beautiful and historic site located on the Renishaw Estate, which has been in the same family for over 400 years. While touring the vineyard, visitors gain a fascinating producer insight as they discover the different grapes grown in this unique part of England and what they bring to each wine. Enjoy tasting the range of global award-winning English wines, produced locally by Kieron Atkinson at his winery. A tour and taste at Renishaw Hall Vineyard promises to be a great experience for any wine enthusiasts.

Winery Tour & Tasting at Darley Abbey - Your tour and tasting will take place at our winery, based within the historic and atmospheric Darley Abbey Mills, near Derby. You’ll learn the process of wine making, gaining a fascinating producer insight in to how wine is produced from coming in as grapes and leaving in bottle. During your tour, enjoy a tutored tasting of the range of internationally award-winning English wines, made by expert producer, Kieron Atkinson. Round things off with a cider tasting – Kieron’s other award-winning venture - as you toast an afternoon well spent.

Private group tours and events - Whether you're planning a hen do, birthday bash, a private wine tasting or a corporate event, we offer a range of excellent options to make your special occasion truly memorable. Immerse yourself in the world of English wine with our private group tours and tastings, designed for groups of 15 or more. Our team is dedicated to ensuring a unique and tailored experience for you and your guests, with a guaranteed wine tasting of internationally award-wines.

• Directions

Winery - DE22 1DZ - Come in to the Darley Abbey Mills past Derby Rugby Club, taking the first right turn and you will see a large English Wine Project sign on the outside of our building. Please bring warm clothes in winter months as it can get cold inside the winery.

Vineyard - S21 3WB - Come up the main drive for Renishaw Hall and you will see a car park directly infront of the main house. There is a visitors centre at the right of the carpark who will direct you to the vineyard. (not accessible for wheelchairs)
