Ashford-in-the-Water Well Dressing

There will be six well dressings this year. Here are the schedule of events, which include the following:

• Wells in the Making (the public are invited to view these events):
  • PUDDLING (putting clay into the boards) Friday May 22nd, approx 5.30 pm. Sheepwash Bridge.
  • PETALLING (decorating the well dressing boards) Saturday May 23rd 2026 - Friday May 29th 2026. War Memorial Institute.
• Well Blessing Date: Sunday May 31 2026 -starting in Holy Trinity Church.
• Dates the Well Dressings are available for viewing by the public: Saturday May 30th - Sunday June 7th 2026.

The Wells-

1. Top Pump Well near the car park entrance, in the centre of Buxton Road at its junction with Fennel Street

2. Children’s Well on the footpath that links Buxton Road a few metres east of the first well, with Fennel Street next to a shop

3. Sheepwash Well at the corner of Church Street near Sheepwash Bridge

4. Church Street Well further along Church Street, set into a wall on the south side of the road

5. Greaves Lane Well on the east side of Greaves Lane (the road leading to Monsal Head), a short distance from its junction with Church Street

6. Little Well further up Greaves Lane, opposite the junction with Hill Cross

Ashford-in-the-Water is located just off the A6, about 2.5km northwest of Bakewell.
