As 2025 marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of literary icon Jane Austen, Buxton Crescent Spa Hotel is hosting a very special Afternoon Tea
About
7th June 2025 - 8th June 2025
As 2025 marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of literary icon Jane Austen, Buxton Crescent Spa Hotel is hosting a very special Afternoon Tea inspired by the author, who is believed to have visited the area whilst revising the final chapters of Pride and Prejudice, drawing inspiration from the local scenery.
In partnership with publishers Pan Macmillan, Buxton Crescent is offering a complimentary copy of one of Austen’s famous novels for each guest taking tea, along with live readings from the 1813 novel, Pride and Prejudice, bringing the Regency-era of Derbyshire to life in the grand setting of the historic Crescent.
Jane Austen frequently visited and drew inspiration from Derbyshire and its picturesque landscapes and atmosphere, remarking there was ‘no finer county in England than Derbyshire’ in her best-loved novel Pride and Prejudice.
Over the weekend of 7 - 8 June, Buxton Crescent Jane Austen Afternoon Tea will be available over four sittings, offering a selection of delicious savoury and sweet treats freshly made by Buxton Crescent’s expert pastry chef, including a Bakewell Tart, a Derbyshire delight with raspberry preserve and a buttery pastry, topped with a creamy frangipane. To drink, guests can enjoy a variety of teas, including English Breakfast, Darjeeling, Chamomile and Earl Grey. Afternoon Tea will be served on both days at 1pm and 3pm and is priced at £40pp including a glass of Prosecco. For bookings call the hotel events office on 01298 808999.
The Afternoon Tea will be served in one of the Grade I hotel’s elegant period rooms, overlooking Buxton’s sloping hills and sweeping crescent exterior.
General Manager Deirdre Billing says: “As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth in 2025, we’re delighted to invite guests to a unique Afternoon Tea inspired by the beloved author. Believed to have visited Buxton while revising the final chapters of Pride and Prejudice, Austen’s connection to the area makes this a truly fitting tribute. Guests can enjoy live readings from the novel, receive a complimentary copy of one of her timeless works – courtesy of our partnership with Pan Macmillan – and savour a delicious Afternoon Tea in the elegant surroundings of the historic Buxton Crescent.”
Buxton Crescent is the perfect setting to transport Austen fans back to the Georgian era. The hotel - one of the only remaining Georgian Crescent hotels in the UK, dating back to 1789 – was built so the nobility could ‘take the waters’ at the thermal mineral spring and now, decades later, many of the spa treatments are centred around water, and include CO2 infusion mineral baths and underwater jet massages. Its period features include Georgian symmetry, columns and crescents, and a fully refurbished spa with multiple pools including an indoor-outdoor rooftop pool, thermal mineral pool, and striking Victorian baths.
- 1 x free copy of an Austen novel will be provided to each guest
- Daily sittings will take place at 1pm and 3pm
- Priced at £40pp including a glass of Prosecco
- For bookings contact the events team on 01298 808 999 or email buxtonevents@ensanahotels.com
