Buxton to the Goyt Valley Walk

A moderate 10-mile (16km) circular walk from Buxton, taking in two Ethels – Corbar Hill and Combs Head – plus the Corbar Hill trig point. The route combines woodland, open moorland and spectacular views across the Peak District, with around 1,600ft (500m) of ascent. Approximately 5.5 - 6 hours. Sadly no dogs.

This moderate, occasionally challenging circular walk is approximately 10 miles (16km) and should take around 5.15 –6 hours on the walk, depending on conditions and the pace of the group.

Starting at Buxton Railway Station, we head through Corbar Wood and up to Corbar Hill (Ethel), where we'll also visit the Corbar Hill trig point. From here the route continues across the open moorland of Combs Moss, taking in our second Ethel, Combs Head, before continuing towards the beautiful Goyt Valley.

The route offers a great combination of woodland, open moorland and spectacular Peak District views, with two Ethels and a trig point providing some particular highlights. We then return to Buxton via a varied route, with the option of stopping for some well-earned post-walk refreshments.

The walk includes sections of open and occasionally wet or uneven moorland, as well as some ascent and descent. Participants should be comfortable walking for around 10 miles and be appropriately equipped for changeable Peak District weather, including suitable footwear and waterproof clothing.
