Theatre, cinema and music
Why not catch a show or enjoy some live local music during your visit?
There are some great theatres, cinemas and live music venues in Derbyshire and the Peak District, where you can enjoy everything from local musicians to world-class productions.
One of the most famous, architecturally delightful and enchanting theatres in the Peak District is the Buxton Opera House, in the beautiful historic spa town of Buxton. One of the busiest and most exciting times to visit is during the annual Buxton International Festival of opera, music and books each July. The festival is complimented by one of the UK’s largest festival fringe with events happening all over town.
Chesterfield is also blessed with not one, but two theatres and venue spaces - the Winding Wheel and Pomegranate Theatre. Both venues run busy programmes throughout the year.
For a movie night with a difference, there are a number of historic independent cinemas in the Peak District and Derbyshire, such as the Ritz Cinema in Belper and the Northern Light Cinema in Wirksworth. Live music can be found in abundance too, from the pubs of Glossop in the far north of the area to top perfomers in the city of Derby.
Operas, musicals, plays, music, stand-up comedy, children’s shows and pantomimes. You can find all kinds of performances and shows here in the Peak District and Derbyshire.
