    Clowne Well Dressing

This ancient custom is only found in Derbyshire and is the art of decorating springs and wells with pictures made from natural materials.

The villagers of Clowne have been dressing wells for many years and are proud to keep the tradition of giving thanks for water with intricate floral pictures. The name Clowne ('Clun') denotes a place of springs, so it's right that the village should mark the blessing of the wells.
