Clowne Well Dressing
This ancient custom is only found in Derbyshire and is the art of decorating springs and wells with pictures made from natural materials.

The villagers of Clowne have been dressing wells for many years and are proud to keep the tradition of giving thanks for water with intricate floral pictures. The name Clowne ('Clun') denotes a place of springs, so it's right that the village should mark the blessing of the wells.
Blessing ceremony 10 am on Saturday 26th
Location - Front of B and M store , Mill Green Way, Clowne, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, S43 4LJ
Coffee morning at local Methodist Chapel on Saturday .
Displays by each of the local schools children are in addition alongside.
Free and all welcome – donations box.

We are part of a North East Derbys group of well dressers who are proud still to be keeping the tradition of giving thanks for water alive with intricate floral pictures.
Schools involved Clowne Infants/Clowne Juniors,/Heritage High School.
Clowne is located on B-roads south of the A616, about 3km east of junction 30 of the M1.
