Etwall is an Old Saxon settlement located to the south-west of Derby.
The importance of wells to the village is apparent from its name, written 'Etewelle' in the Doomsday Book. Well dressing was first celebrated here in 1970 and takes place over the third weekend of May each year.
This year there will be seven well dressing sites to visit around the village, as well as the opportunity to have-a-go at well dressing, under expert supervision, in our demo tent. Both of the village churches will also have themed floral decoration.
The Blessing of the Wells Service will take place around 12 noon on Saturday 18th May to officially open the Festival. However, all the well dressings can be viewed from mid-morning onwards.
Etwall is located just off the A516, which links southwest Derby (Mickleover and Littleover) with the A50.
