Renishaw Hall's stunning Italianate Gardens and Historic Eckington-Heritage Open Days

A guided walk from Eckington Library along Southgate noting some of the earliest and most prestigious buildings in the village, to enter the main gates of Renishaw Hall for a tour of it's Italianate gardens led by the Head Gardener David Kesteven

The starting point for the day is Eckington Library, which will have exhibitions on garden architecture and one on interesting buildings in the village for early arrivals. The guided walk is a short and gentle one along Southgate containing some fine houses built mainly in Victorian times (although some are older) for the wealthier inhabitants including the Sitwell family and the coal magnates, the Wells family. Walkers will enter the Renishaw Hall Estate through the main entrance and be able to appreciate the landscape architecture of the area. Once the walk reaches the garden entrance, the tour will be guided by the Head Gardener David Kesteven who will describe the features of the garden and how this part of North Derbyshire came to have such a remarkable Italianate garden. Tour members are welcome to stay in the garden after the tour.
The Library exhibitions will continue throughout the period of the Heritage Open Day Festival during library opening hours.
