West Hallam Well Dressing

This ancient custom is unique to Derbyshire and is the art of decorating springs and wells with pictures made from natural materials.

Well Dressings are works of art created by hand using natural materials such as petals and seeds by groups of dedicated volunteers.

  • July 13 to July 20, 2024
  • Dedication: July 13, 12:00 noon
  • Wells in the Making: one Well Dressing will be made from July 10 to 12 (times TBA) in the Village Hall

Well Dressings

Varies from year to year: in 2023 there were eight, situated along the Village (between the gate of St Wilfrid's Churchyard and School Square) and around School Square itself:

  • 1. St Wilfrid’s Church Well Dressings at the gate of the churchyard, next to the Village Hall
  • 2. Village Hall Well Dressings outside the Village Hall
  • 3. The Village Well Dressings along The Village between the Village Hall and School Square
  • 4. School Square Well Dressings around School Square
