Your reasons for wanting to get better at navigation make a great chat over coffee and we can’t wait to meet you and find out more. The freedom of the hills is soon to be yours. Open the map, Turn it around, Match it to the ground - Off you go

  • Perfect introduction to navigation with map and compass
  • Learn, practice and consolidate essential hillwalking skills
  • Build confidence to plan your own quality hill days

A two day practical Peak District Navigation Course geared to giving you the skills you need to get out exploring the tracks and trails of the UK. Aimed at beginners wanting to start self-guided walks in the hills, our beginner navigation course offers a full introduction to navigation as well as essential skills for safety, planning and kit selection. You'll also cover the effects of weather, how to deal with emergencies and gain a valuable understanding of Britain's upland environment. Based at The Adventure Hub in the heart of the Peak District, you will be perfectly situated to launch out onto the high moorland and ridges of the Dark Peak or the beautiful rolling valleys of the White Peak. You will be able to understand and use maps, grid references, scales and rights of way and all the practical tools for navigation including the use of a compass to set the map and check direction. Recognised by DofE, Scouting and The Ramblers, the NNAS Bronze award is accredited by the Scottish Credit & Qualifications Framework (SCQF) at Level 4, and 2 SCQF credit points are awarded on completion.
