About Printing the Past - Mini Woodblock Printing Workshop at Chatsworth

    £95 per person: 18th July 10-4pm

Explore the art of woodblock printing, inspired by the House of Stories exhibition at Chatsworth. This method originated hundreds of years ago in Japan and became an essential method for reproducing images before modern printing techniques existed. Early books, illustrations and decorative prints were often produced using carved wooden blocks, each carefully inked and pressed onto paper.

During the workshop, you will design and carve your woodblock, then add colour through a monoprint process, by painting a background on acetate and transferring it to Japanese paper. The carved block will then be printed over the colour, creating a rich, layered image. By the end of the session you will have produced an edition of mini woodblock prints. The tutor will support you throughout the day.

All materials and equipment will be provided.
