Hassop

A small picturesque hamlet with some grand buildings and fine architecture set in beautiful countryside.

In spring the snowdrops and daffodils on the roadside through the village are delightful. The village consists of a cluster of pretty houses and a farm that are dominated by the grandeurs of the palatial Hassop Hall and the Classical temple-like Catholic Church. Hassop is two miles north of Bakewell and has close ties with nearby Great Longstone. For centuries it was the home of the noble Eyre family, who built most of the village and little has changed over the years.

Things to do in Hassop:

The Roman Catholic Church of All Saints has some fine monuments and works of art. The elegant 17th century Hassop Hall is now an exclusive Country House Hotel, with fine interiors and lovely parkland.
The ivy-clad Eyre Arms is a charming old inn.
A mile to the south, where the Monsal Trail passes along the former railway line, the old station buildings house a large bookstore and café.
