Travelling by train
The Peak District and Derbyshire is easy to reach by rail from across the UK, and boasts plenty of scenic stations with great circular walks.
Getting to the Peak District and Derbyshire couldn't be easier by train, and regular services link many of the area's most popular destinations. Find the Peak District train station most convenient for you!
Taking the train from London St Pancras International can get you to Derby in less than 2 hours, continuing onwards to Chesterfield and Sheffield to the East. To the West of the Peak District, the main line from London Euston stops at Stoke-on-Trent, Macclesfield, Stockport and Manchester Piccadilly, with excellent public transport links into the heart of the Peak District National Park. Once you arrive, the branch lines listed below will take you into the heart of the area.
Northern
Northern's Hope Valley line between Manchester and Sheffield passes through spectacular Peak District scenery, calling at some of the Peak District’s most popular railway stations for enjoying the countryside, including Grindleford, Hathersage, Bamford, Hope and Edale.
To the west is the Manchester to Glossop line, for access to the nearby Dark Peak moors and the Longdendale Valley including the Goyt Valley and the town of New Mills.
The Manchester to Buxton line is a popular service offering fast access to the iconic spa town, with regular bus services that will take you onwards to picturesque villages and dales in the White Peak, including the market town of Bakewell.
East Midlands Railway
To the south is the Derwent Valley Line from Derby to Matlock, covering the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site (with highlights such as Cromford and Belper), plus the popular town of Matlock, where regular bus services will take you to picturesque villages and dales in the White Peak, including the market town of Bakewell.
CrossCountry
CrossCountry Trains provide a direct link from Bristol and to Chesterfield or Sheffield (also stopping at Derby). From here you can connect to local bus services to many popular destinations across the Peak District.
TransPennine Express
To the north is the Manchester to Huddersfield line, stopping on the way at Greenfield and Marsden for access to Dove Stones, the Wessenden Valley and the open moors.
