The Old Cattle Barn
A beautifully renovated stone barn in the grounds of a Grade 2* listed farm dating back to 1640. Now a modern two-bed, two-bath cottage with idyllic valley views. Sleeps four.
About
A beautifully renovated stone barn, set in the grounds of a Grade 2* listed farm dating back to 1640. Meticulously transformed from the original cattle stalls into a modern, perfectly rustic two-bed, two-bath cottage in 2023, it retains the history and character of the original building. From this idyllic rural location on the Peak District National Park boundary, there are breathtaking valley views across Bradbourne Brook, and yet the barn is only a 10-minute drive into Ashbourne.
To maximize the high ceilings and beautiful beams, the living space is open-plan with a reading nook by a large window, a new kitchen/dining area leading to a covered patio, and a sitting room with a log burner.
The spacious timber verandah, with an outdoor kitchen, allows for outdoor dining in any weather. A gravel garden, framed by a stone wall with built-in seating, leads off the patio and into fields and wooded areas for exploration.
Originally split into three bays typical of historic barns, one-third of the building is now sleeping accommodation. It includes a downstairs twin bedroom (convertible to a king) and an upstairs double bedroom with a roof truss window overlooking the living area. Both rooms have comfortable contemporary beds with 100% cotton linen.
Both bedrooms are en-suite. The ground-floor bathroom has a compact bath with a shower attachment, while the first-floor wet room has a rainfall shower between the roof trusses. Egyptian cotton towels are provided.
