Birchover Open Gardens

An established event for over 30 yrs. Discover beautiful gardens in a Peak District village.

About

20th June 2026 - 21st June 2026 12:30 pm - 5:00 pm

Come along to this beautiful Peak District village and wander around its beautiful gardens. Birchover is situated on a hilltop, beneath Stanton Moor with its 9 Ladies Stone Circle.

This well-established event takes place over the weekend of 20/21 June from 12.30 pm to 5.-00 pm, with around 20 gardens open for you to visit, varying in style from traditional cottage gardens to modern examples.

Home-made cakes, sandwiches and teas will be served in the Village Hall. As you walk around the village you will be warmly welcomed to view Chris Fleming and Mark Eaton at work, showing their skills in woodwork and stone masonry respectively. Chris will demonstrate his handcrafted green wood working and will exhibit his works. Mark Eaton will show off fine letter workings in stone. Crafty Green Fingers (locally grown plants and crafts) and various stalls (including Betulla Jewellery by Harriet Miller and homemade elderflower cordial) will be dotted around the village, or in gardens for you to enjoy.

There will be a display of paintings, local scenes, wildlife and wildflowers to view/purchase by Joanne Eaton at Harebell House. St Michael’s Church, a Grade II listed building, circa 1700, plays a big part of the Open Gardens weekend. This historic building with its Ashford Marble font, elaborate carvings and stained-glass windows is a focal point of the village. The stained-glass windows on the south side of the church were made by the late, internationally acclaimed artist Brian Clark, when he resided in Vicarage in the 1970s. This year the church will be decorated with flowers from local florist, Robert Young and will also host a display of black and white postcards of local and village scenes.

Come along and join the oldest continuous Open Gardens in Derbyshire from 12.30 pm to 5:00 pm. £5 for an Adult ticket and Children/Students FOC, combined with free parking on the playing field makes Birchover Open Gardens a fun and affordable event for everyone! The event is dog friendly too.

Ticket sales (opposite the Red Lion Inn) - some stalls will be CASH only. The event is proudly sponsored and supported by local businesses: Barn Farm Campsite, AG&M Granite and Quartz Surfaces and Birchover Stone Ltd. Printing and banners by Northend Printing Company, Sheffield. Flowers donated by Robert Young Florist, Tansley. Funds raised will support the Village Hall/Church/Village Funds. Post Code: DE4 2BN
