Dolomite Peak District Navigation Course

This Group introduction to Map Reading is a great starting point for those with little or no experience of Navigation.

About

25th September 2025 9:00 am - 4:30 pm

We offer a bespoke Navigation Course to groups of all sizes. These include ramblers clubs or walking groups that would like to learn more navigation skills. Equally this course is ideal for those who want the confidence to lead walks within their clubs. Our instructors are all Mountain Leaders and are there to support and encourage you. They will also share their knowledge and skills to help you develop a good navigation toolkit.

This one day navigation course is ideal for groups who either have limited confidence in their own ability or the skills to map read independently.

If you have a small group then this course can be run on demand. This means that you can choose the dates that suit you and we can supply the staff to deliver the training. The price advertised is for a minimum of 4 people but we will offer discounts for larger groups. Please contact us for further details.

During the course you will learn about:

  • How to orientate a map (with and without a compass)
  • Look at scales on different maps
  • Look at features and symbols and what the mean
  • Taking bearings
  • Gain confidence in relocating

Equipment required

Suitable clothing to keep you warm and dry for the expected weather (check a forecast for this area or call us) carry a waterproof or windproof jacket. You will need a pair of walking boots for most of the day, a packed lunch and drink. Bring some cash as we can always find a café for tea and cake. Maps (OL1 & OL24) and compasses can be provided.
