Opening Concert: Strauss and Schumann
Friday 21 June 2024, 19:00 - 21:00

Award-winning soprano Claire Surman will sing a selection of sublime songs by Richard Strauss arranged for string quartet led by the newly-appointed leader of the Orchestra of Opera North, Katie Stillman. We then welcome our Vice-President Viv McLean to perform Schumann’s stunning Piano Quintet in E flat. The concert concludes with a Johann Strauss II waltz arranged by Berg for piano, harmonium and string quartet.

Late Night Concert: The Rite of Spring

In our Late Night Concert we welcome back Viv McLean who joins forces with Benjamin Powell to demonstrate a selection of fascinating pieces for four hands on the piano including Stravinsky’s own piano arrangement of The Rite of Spring.

Family Concert: Fantastic Fairy Tales!
Saturday 22 June, 11:00 - 13:00

Get up close to the action as Carrot Productions brings Goldilocks and The Three Bears and Cinderella to life through music, storytelling, dancing and lots of fun! Led by a professional actor/dancer and musicians from the UK’s leading orchestras, families can enjoy a magical concert and meet the musicians afterwards. Coffee and cake from 10.30am.

Hallé Community Choral Workshop 2024

Saturday 22 June, 14:00 - 16:00
Led by Hallé Youth and Training Choir Directors Stuart Overington and Matt Roughley, this fun and energetic choral workshop is for everyone! No previous singing experience is necessary as Stuart and Matthew bring their experience as Hallé choral leaders to Glossop. You will leave the workshop feeling uplifted and energised by the power of singing!

Closing Concert: Mendelssohn’s Italian Symphony with Glossop Festival Orchestra

Saturday 22 June, 19:00 - 21:00
For our closing concert, we welcome Glossop Festival Orchestra for a concert of classical masterpieces directed by violin virtuoso Katie Stillman. With pieces by Fauré, Jessie Montgomery, Mozart and Ravel, the concert concludes with Mendelssohn’s 'Italian' Symphony. Written to capture the sights and sounds of Italy, it is one of the most dramatic pieces of music ever written by the composer.
