Well Dressing is a Derbyshire tradition where communities create floral mosaics around wells, blending art & nature to celebrate water, & heritage.

The Blessing is on July 18, 2:00p.m. starting from Jubilee Road.

Wells in the Making: July 13 to 17, from 7:00p.m. in the Scout and Guide HQ on the Recreation Ground off Welbeck Street.

Whitwell Festival of Music:

  • September 11 to September 13, 2026
  • Note: the dates shown are those of the Whitwell Festival of Music. A Well Dressing is made during the course of the event, and may be displayed in the village afterwards.

Well Dressings

Three:

  • 1. Village Square Well Dressing on The Square at the junction of Titchfield Street and Station Road
  • 2. Village Green Well Dressings two dressings on The Green at the junction of High Street and Worksop Road (follow the hill up out of The Square past the Old Cross)

In addition, a Demonstration Well Dressing is often made during the Whitwell Festival of Music, held on a different date, in the Community Centre.
A Well Dressing is sometimes made for the Christmas Tree Festival in St Lawrence Church, when held.

Whitwell is located about 6km east of Barlborough and junction 30 of the M1, between the A616 to Newark and the A619 to Worksop.
