Stanage, Froggatt, Curbar, Burbage: these long escarpments of Carboniferous millstone grit have drawn climbers for over a century, and the rock itself tells a 320-million-year story of ancient river deltas and buried mountain ranges.

Our climbing and abseiling sessions are suitable for complete beginners through to experienced climbers looking to try new crags. All sessions are led by a qualified Mountain Leader and geologist who knows every hold, and the geological story behind the rock you are climbing on.

Sessions are fun, challenging, and always focused on safety and progression. All technical equipment is provided.

Where We Climb

The Peak District is home to some of the UK’s most celebrated climbing locations, from iconic gritstone edges to dramatic limestone quarries. We choose the best venue for your ability, goals, and the weather on the day. Here’s a closer look at some of our favourite spots:

Stanage Edge

Stanage Edge is one of the most famous crags in Britain: four kilometres of Carboniferous gritstone formed as river delta sediments around 320 million years ago. The edge offers hundreds of traditional routes. With climbs ranging from beginner-friendly slabs to classic VS and HVS lines, it’s ideal for first-time climbers and seasoned trad lovers alike. The views over the Hope Valley, with the limestone White Peak beyond, make it a spectacular venue.

Burbage North & South

Close to Sheffield and ideal for instruction, Burbage North has short, friendly routes with plenty of good gear placements and large flat bases. Burbage South offers a bit more of a challenge with taller routes and great opportunities to practice gear placement, footwork, and movement skills.

Froggatt Edge

A favourite for intermediate climbers, Froggatt Edge combines classic gritstone routes with stunning vistas. Well-known climbs like Terrace Crack and Sunset Slab offer just the right level of challenge for those looking to push themselves. A brilliant venue for developing balance, technique, and confidence on slabs and cracks.

Curbar Edge

Tougher and steeper than its neighbour Froggatt, Curbar Edge is the venue for climbers who want a physical challenge. With harder lines and fierce classics like Elder Crack, this edge is best for experienced climbers or those after advanced coaching.

Lawrencefield Quarry

This beautiful, tree-lined gritstone quarry offers excellent beginner climbing and abseiling opportunities. Its vertical walls are ideal for learning rope techniques, safe belaying, and getting familiar with outdoor rock movement. It’s also sheltered from the wind, making it a good choice on breezy days.

Millstone Edge

Millstone Edge features tall walls and clean crack lines in coarse-grained gritstone. The edge takes its name from the millstones once quarried here, the same hard rock that makes it such good climbing. Routes like Great North Road and Embankment are textbook trad climbs. This crag is ideal for those who’ve already mastered the basics and are keen to explore more technical placements and jamming techniques.

Horseshoe Quarry

If you’re interested in sport climbing, Horseshoe Quarry is one of the few bolted limestone venues in the Peak District, and the contrast with gritstone is immediately obvious: smoother, more pocketed rock formed on a tropical sea floor rather than a river delta. It’s a great place to learn lead climbing skills, route reading, and confidence on limestone. We use this venue for introducing sport climbing or mixing up your experience during a multi-day course.

A £100 deposit secures your date. Half-day trips start at 9am or 1:30pm; full-day trips start at 9am. Other start times can sometimes be arranged, but please email us first if you need something different, before booking. Tell us which activity you would like and how many people are in your group. We will confirm your total price for your activity and group size, then send a link for the remaining balance closer to the time.
