The Anglers Rest

The Anglers Rest in Bamford is a vibrant community-owned hub at the heart of this Peak District village, serving as a traditional pub, café and the local post office all under one roof. In 2013, over 300 local residents came together through the Bamford Community Society to purchase and save the pub from closure, making it Derbyshire’s first community-owned pub and a valued Asset of the Community.

Today, the venue welcomes both locals and visitors with a warm, welcoming atmosphere and a strong community spirit. The pub offers a selection of local real ales—often featuring Peak District breweries such as Eyam and Intrepid—alongside hearty, home-cooked meals, from traditional Sunday roasts to classic pub favourites enjoyed by walkers, cyclists and families.

During the day, the café and tea room provide a relaxed spot for coffee, cakes and light lunches, while the adjoining Post Office keeps essential village services alive. The building also features cosy seating areas, a pool table for entertainment, and regularly hosts community events, quizzes and activities.

Accessible by bus and within walking distance of Bamford train station, The Anglers Rest also supports low-carbon travel with bike facilities and electric car charging points, underlining its role as a social, cultural and environmental asset to the community and visitors alike.
