About

Immerse yourself in the stories of Bakewell and this part of the Peak District at our award-winning museum.

Bakewell Old House Museum is a five hundred year old time capsule. Originally constructed as a tithe house in 1534, it is the oldest standing residence in Bakewell and the in situ Tudor wattle and daub, grand fireplace and windows attest to this fact. Now a museum spanning eleven rooms, it charts the development of the house from a gentleman’s residence in the Elizabethan period to a condemned row of tenements saved by the Bakewell and District Historical Society in the 1950s. There is also an extensive display of objects relating to Bakewell and the wider Peak as well as our current special exhibition: Home Sweet Home: The Doll’s House.

The museum volunteers really look forward to seeing you!

Tickets can be purchased on the door or online.

2026 exhibition: Home Sweet Home

Throughout 2026, Bakewell Old House Museum has an exhibition of doll's houses and miniatures. Explore locally-made doll's houses from the 1870s, a large collection of historic early 20th Lines Brothers (Tri-Ang) doll's houses, as well as other historic and modern variants on the doll's house and beautifully-crafted miniatures. Scenes and miniatures from Valerie Claire Miniatures, Mini McGregor Dolls House Miniatures, Jane Harrop, Delph Miniatures, and Birdhouse Miniatures, as well as some 3d printed minitures and book nooks bring the exhibition up-to-date.

The exhibition is included in the admissions ticket, which is valid for 1 year.
