The Chequers Inn, Froggatt Edge is a family-run free house in the Peak District. The Chequers has earnt a reputation of offering a great service, quality food and a delicious selection of local hand pulled beers. The Chequers boasts seven en-suite bedrooms, compromising of a twin, standard doubles & superior doubles.
The Chequers is situated on Froggatt Edge in the Dark Peak, with direct access from our beer garden. Froggatt Edge is the perfect place for walking, climbing, cycling and has exceptional views of Hope Valley, Chatsworth House and the River Derwent. We have compiled a selection of circular walks from The Chequers around Froggatt Edge with varying difficulties and durations. Whether you’re after a short walk to work up an appetite before dinner, or day out rambling, we can send you in the right direction! If cycling is your thing then we are in prime location for cycling across the Peak District and we have a secure cycle storage unit for you to keep your bike in overnight. There is a cycle hire at Hassop Station on the Monsal Trail but a few miles away. The Monsal Trail is a great cycling route along a disused railway route which features old viaducts and tunnels. Just a few miles away is the historic market town of Bakewell, home of the famous Bakewell Pudding and Haddon Hall. The Chequers is just a stone’s throw away from other villages in the Hope Valley such as Castleton and Eyam. The Chequers is also in a great location for a drive out to Buxton and Ashbourne. Chatsworth House, Gardens and Estate is also around a ten-minute drive away from The Chequers.
The Chequers offers a comprehensive food menu with traditional pub classics, such as our famous steak and ale pie, as well as Rosette-winning dishes. All our produce is sourced locally, homemade and fresh. We have a selection of local beers on tap sourced from Peak Ales, Chatsworth, and Bradfield Brewery, Sheffield. We have a large, secluded woodland beer garden for enjoying a local gin and tonic in the summer, and an open log fire with easy seating for a winter’s nights.
All our room rates include a full Derbyshire breakfast, and we have a special rate inclusive of dinner, bed and breakfast available by calling us directly. We have a private dining room which can seat up to twenty of your friends and family. We have been registered as ‘Good to Go’ by Visit Britain on our Covid-19 safety measures. We have many calendar events throughout the year, including a Burn’s Night celebration dinner with a traditional Scottish Piper, Christmas Brass Band Concerts, and New Year’s Eve celebration.
