Steel to Cotton Trail, Chinley to New Mills.

Hayfield Walkers are Welcome - a one-way heritage walk accessible for Mobility Vehicle users

    A one-way heritage walk that has also been assessed as being suitable for mobility vehicle users by their partners and largely follows the Steel to Cotton trail from Chinley station along Outram’s ancient tramway and the Peak Forest canal towpath to New Mills.

    Joining details:  Mobility Vehicle Users.  Meet at Chinley Station car park at 10:30. The assessed trail is on a variety of tarmac and unmade paths with no ascents. You will need to make your own arrangements for returning to Chinley to collect your transport.  For more details and questions please email hayfieldwalkersarewelcome@gmail.com

    Joining details:  Unassisted Walkers.  Meet at New Mills Central station to take the 10:15 train to Chinley.  Parking is available at New Mills station and at other locations in the town.

    Walk detail:  From Chinley station we will take the Outram tramway to Bugsworth Basin and then the Peak Forest towpath via Furness Vale Marina to finish at Arlo’s Café in Victoria St. Victoria Mill, New Mills, SK22 3HE which is accessible for all participants.  Unassisted walkers may choose to leave the Walkers are Welcome party at a late, defined point and under their own guidance if they wish to adhere strictly to the Steel to Cotton trail, alongside the Goyt river, back to New Mills via Torr Vale Mill and Hydro.

    Historical background to this enjoyable route and its features are provided by information boards and some narrative along the way.

    Mobility Vehicle Users: 10:30-13:00 from Chinley Station

    Unassisted Walkers: 10:00-13:00 from New Mills Central Station
