Bamford Well Dressing
Well Dressing is the art of decorating springs or wells with pictures made of natural products.
About
11th July 2026 - 19th July 2026
Bamford dresses two wells in the Village each year. The main one is a joint endeavour which everyone is welcome to help out with, and a smaller one is made up by the Playgroup.
Bamford Well Dressing will be on display on The Green next to the wells.
This ancient custom is all but unique to Derbyshire. It's the art of decorating wells and springs with pictures made using only natural materials.
The date of the blessing is being planned for Sunday 12th July at 11am with the Castleton Silver Band
We will be creating the Bamford Well Dressing 2026 during the week Monday 6th to Friday 10th July in the Art Room at Bamford Institute. It will be open each day to everyone who would like to come along to join in, we are always very welcoming to anyone who would like to find out more about Well Dressing. There will be a timetable displayed on each of the village noticeboard during the week..
The Dressing can be viewed on The Green, Bamford from 11am Saturday 11th July to Sunday 19th July 11am.
Our theme will be the Peak Park 75th celebration and will possibly be one of the local iconic views.
