Mills and Martyrs Loss Pilgrimage
A circular 8.5-mile modern pilgrimage of loss through the peaceful Derbyshire Peak District
About
31st October 2026
On the eve of All Hallows, our annual Mills and Martyrs loss pilgrimage is a powerfully reflective way to remember and honour all that we have loved and lost. Not only do we grieve when we lose a loved one, we can grieve our relationships, our health, our dreams, our careers and more.
As we circle the Tideswell Benefice from the Mother Church around her four Daughter Churches, we will remember and reflect on all those things in the privacy of our own thoughts or shared if you wish. Together we discover the forgotten stories of these fascinating buildings, from the head of Glossop’s almost-saint to Litton Mill’s cruelly-treated orphans buried in the churchyard ‘young, poor, easily replaced and anonymous’, one of whom inspired Charles Dickens’ to write Oliver Twist.
Through picturesque lead mining villages, by rivers through limestone dales and kilns we journey together, remembering moments and people who mattered deeply to us as we reconnect with ourselves, nature and each other.
