Pirate and Princesses Weekend at Midland Railway -Butterley

Ahoy and welcome to the Pirate & Princess Adventure at Midland Railway – Butterley, a fun-filled family event combining heritage steam train travel with imagination, entertainment and adventure.

Climb aboard a heritage steam train at Butterley Station and enjoy a scenic journey through the Derbyshire countryside. On arrival at Swanwick Junction, young pirates and princesses are welcomed by colourful characters, ready to begin the adventure.

Throughout the day, families can enjoy character meet-and-greets, plus a lively show featuring music and dancebetween train services, creating a festive and engaging atmosphere. Visitors are encouraged to dress up, bring their cameras and immerse themselves in the fun.

When off the train, there is plenty to explore around the Swanwick Junction museum complex (availability may vary), including the Golden Valley Light Railway, Victorian Railwayman’s Church, Stationary Power House, Road Transport Museum, children’s playground and surrounding country park. Deeley’s Tearoom at Swanwick Junction is open for drinks, light snacks and ice creams, perfect for a pause between adventures.

The Pirate & Princess Adventure offers a memorable family day out, blending heritage rail travel with storytelling, play and creativity in a unique railway setting. Free parking is available at Butterley Station.
