Swanwick Well Dressing

This ancient custom is all but unique to Derbyshire. It's the art of decorating wells and springs with pictures made using only natural materials.

About

20th June 2026 - 27th June 2026

This years theme will be the Peak District National Park 75th anniversary.

The main one by the Churches United will be at the well site at the entrance to Broadway, Swanwick, Derbyshire, DE55 1AY.

1. Jubilee Fountain Well Dressing at the Jubilee Fountain, at the junction of Broadway and The Green (B6016)

2. 2nd Swanwick Scouts Well Dressing outside the Centenary Scout Hall on Chapel Street

Blessing TBC

The railings in front of the fountain are removed for the dressing to be put in place on the first day of the event. For the rest of the week, the railings are back in place, which may make photography difficult.

Swanwick is located at the junction of the B6179 and the B6016 roads about 1.5km south of the A38 at Alfreton.
