Discover Ashbourne
Explore the stunning architecture of the town, including the 18th-century Market Place and St. Oswald’s Church. Enjoy a peaceful walk along the picturesque Tissington Trail just out of town – where you can walk, cycle and do a little wildlife watching. Ashbourne also offers plenty of charming shops, cafes, and traditional pubs to explore.

Enjoy Derbyshire village life in Tissington
Just a short bus ride away is the quintessentially English village of Tissington, complete with charming cottages, duck pond and the historic Tissington Hall, a stately family home surrounded by beautiful gardens – private tours available but book in advance. At the top of the village you can join the Tissington Trail and walk back to you start point in Ashbourne (4.5 miles / approx. 1hr 35 mins).

Say cheese to Hartington
Alternatively hop back onto the bus to Hartington. Home to Hartington Hall – now a stunning YHA Hostel, the village is famous for its delicious cheese, so be sure to sample local Derbyshire cheese at the gorgeous Hartington Cheese Shop.

Discover hidden alleyways in Longnor
6 miles north of Hartington lies another quaint village – Longnor. Stroll through the charming village and admire the pretty stone cottages. Longnor sits just below the top of a ridge between the Dove and Manifold valleys and provides an excellent starting point for many walks, including a 2.5 mile walk to Earl Sterndale.

Take a walk along the Dragon’s Back
Earl Sterndale the next stop on the route provides the opportunity to explore the surrounding countryside with lovely walks through the hills and valleys, with paths leading to the stunning Chrome Hill and Parkhouse Hill, which are perfect for hiking and photography – often referred to as the Dragon’s Back

Take in a show at the Buxton Opera House
End of the route is the beautiful spa town of Buxton – a great way to end your day. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the Pavilion Gardens and don’t miss the chance for a visit to the historic Buxton Opera House – with an eclectic mix of shows and concerts throughout the year. Relax in one of the local cafes or pubs, many offering local ales and traditional meals. If you’re up for a walk, head to the scenic Solomon’s Temple for panoramic views of the town as the sun sets.
