Treak Cliff Cavern

Visit an underground wonderland of stalactites and stalagmites, rocks, minerals and fossils. Home of the unique mineral Blue John stone, including the largest piece ever found - still in-situ. With an App previously downloaded onto your own smartphone you follow the self guided route through the cavern, with the information delivered to your phone via Blue Tooth beacons as you move along. Entry times and online booking limit your visit to your group only so your visit is exclusive to you. The audio tour lasts about 50minutes, but you can take longer or spend less time if you prefer it is your tour! As you exit the Cavern the view of Castleton and the Hope Valley stretches for 10 miles in front of you. Our small museum houses a wealth of historic Blue John treasures collected by the family who own and care for the Cavern.

Be aware that we are located on a steep exposed hillside so there is no wheelchair access to or inside the cavern. There are steps and steep slopes both up and down, and the site can experience extreme weather. See our website for a detailed access description.
