About
Eyam Church has existed on its site since 1250, the existing building being medieval, extended by the Victorians. We have an Anglo Saxon cross in the Churchyard, Norman and Saxon Fonts, Murals dating from the 16th Century, some fine Victorian stained glass windows, and a Victorian pipe organ.
However, Eyam Church and Village are more famous for the Bubonic Plague in 1665/66 when Rector William Mompesson and the villagers bravely isolated themselves inside the village to prevent the disease from spreading. We have thousands of visitors each year from school parties, pilgrims, and holiday makers, who come to see this primary source of history and demonstration of faith
You can book in for a tour/talk of the Church. The Church today is lively and honours the same faith in God held for hundreds of years. ‘Greater love has no one than this; to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.’ John ch 15v13
