Looking for a full day of adventure in the Peak District? Thrill seekers are invited to take part in a once-in-a-lifetime experience that blends the thrill of abseiling with the excitement of underground exploration. Take part in these two exhilarating activities in one unforgettable day, to raise vital funds for Shelter to support its fight to end the housing emergency in Yorkshire and beyond.
The day takes place at Millers Dale Viaduct on the 5th of October. In the morning, participants will complete abseils from a stunning 90 feet structure over the River Wye. The morning session offers the perfect opportunity to test your nerve, build confidence, and enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the Peak District. In the afternoon, the adventure continues underground. Participants will explore a natural cave system, taking on challenges such as a descent down a waterfall.
The day promises to be an adrenaline-filled opportunity to try something completely different — all under the guidance of expert instructors from Dolomite Training, who will provide equipment and instructions. Entry to this unique challenge costs just £30, with participants asked to also raise a minimum of £150 in sponsorship for Shelter. Every participant can choose between a Shelter-branded T-shirt or bobble hat to mark their achievement.
Shelter’s work in Yorkshire has never been more important with the number of households experiencing homelessness in the region rocketing in recent years. Right now, there are 3,800 households, including 3,930 children, homeless and living in temporary accommodation in the region, a rise of 12% in just one year.
All funds raised from the event will support Shelter’s frontline services delivering free, expert advice to those experiencing homelessness or poor housing in Yorkshire and beyond, as well as fuel Shelter’s ongoing campaigning to tackle the housing emergency.
